9/11 Weekend Events

The following is a list of community events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001:

* Volunteer workers from Pappy/s Bar-B-Que, 111 E. National Ave., Brazil, and Cloverleaf Healthcare, Knghtsville, will serve a complimentary breakfast to local first responders during the second "Heroes Breakfast," Saturday, from 8-11 a.m.

The breakfast will take place at Pappy's Bar-B-Que.

The food will be served buffet-style and items on the menu will include scrambled eggs, bacon, French toast, sausage, biscuits and gravy and hash brown casserole.

Milk, orange juice, water, coffee, tea and fountain drinks will also be available.

* Bee Ridge Congregational Christian Church will host its annual 9/11 "Thank You Dinner/Memorial Service," Saturday, from 5-8 p.m., at the Forest Park Pavilion.

The guest speaker for the service is Rev. Al Dicer.

The dinner will be set up picnic-style provided by church members.

* The Brazil Elks Lodge No. 762 will host a "Heroes Dinner," honoring all veterans, active military, first responders and their families in the lower level of the lodge Saturday, from 6 p.m.-midnight.

Dinner will be baked spaghetti with garlic bread and salad.

Musical guest Country 90 Proof will provide entertainment.

Discounted cost for veterans, active servicemen or first responders is $10.

Cost for others to attend is $20.

The proceeds will go to the Brazil Elks Heroes Relief Fund.

* Center Point United Methodist Church will conduct a Sept. 11 Remembrance Service at the church Sunday, at 7:30 a.m.

* In honor of the 10th anniversary of the attacks on America, Trinity Baptist Church, 1005 N. Walnut St., Brazil, will have a God and Country service at 11 a.m., Sunday.

Veterans will be recognized and they will be welcome to share about their time in the service and their love for country.

* Eastside Christian Church will again be the site for a tribute dinner for first responders at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The menu will include ham and beans, cornbread and more.

The first dinner took place at Eddie's Sandwich Shoppe in 2002 for members of the Brazil City Police Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, and firefighters.
