Letter to the Editor

Reader: Don't forget Guard

Sunday, September 11, 2011

To the Editor:

On Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, we received the "Patriot Day 911" insert in our daily paper.

I have been told that this publication was aimed toward the recognition of our First Responders.

As a wife of a National Guard Soldier and a volunteer of the 138th Quartermaster, I would be remiss in not giving them recognition as well.

Our National Guard Soldiers not only fight for our freedom overseas, they are also first responders.

The 138th Quartermaster has had missions to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and more locally, they were on duty during the 2008 flood and in 2001 during the ice storm.

These are just a few of many examples of the service they provide for us on a daily basis.

As we look back on this time and remember those firemen, police officers and emergency personnel, let us also remember those who continued the fight past the first response to procuring our freedom, calming our fears and settling the score.
