Allen was born in Detroit, Mich., Nov. 6, 1937, the son of Allen Thomas and Mary Louis (Bobbitt) Grover.
Allen served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged Aug. 26, 1958, and returned home to work in the printing industry.
He worked for many newspapers in the Midwest. Locally, he worked for The Brazil Times and the Tribune-Star.
Allen was active in the Assembly of God Church, in Rochester, Ind., where he served as a deacon as well as Sunday school teacher.
Following retirement, Allen joined the MAPS organization building churches across the United States.
Allen enjoyed paying golf with his brother Tom, spending time with his family and spoiling his dog Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Mary Grover, aunt and uncle who raised him Dee and Ruby Grover, and his great-granddaughter Kaylee Metz.
He is survived by children Peg Woodard, Minnesota, Penny Archer (Gib), Terre Haute, Sharon Gaynon (Mark), Vermont, Karen Brown (Tom), Terre Haute, and David Grover (Wendy), also of Terre Haute, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, brother Tom Grover (Phyllis), Terre Haute, and mother of his children, Linda Grover.
Graveside services will take place at Calcutta Cemetery Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at 2:30 p.m., with military services provided by the United States Air Force, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
