The Northview girls' golf team celebrated a pair of seniors Monday night before its match against visiting Owen Valley.
The Knights' Macie Lynch and Hillary Thomas were honored by their teammates, coaches, parents and friends before scoring a 185 to 199 victory against the Patriots.
"It's just a blessing to have them here," coach Bob Treash said of Thomas and Lynch. "Both of them are just sweet girls and are the best of friends. They've come a long way. When they both started, neither of them could get the ball off the ground the first year and they've improved so much. Macie has gotten to the point that she hits the ball so long and Hillary is consistent. She shot a 49 the other night (against Greencastle), so that was very good for her. It's just amazing how close this team is and I think that is one of the reasons this team has improved and improved. Those two girls, you can't ask for better teammates and kids."
The Knights were led by freshman Keirsten Mikesell, who shot a 44 for medalist honors. Northview continued its balanced play by getting a 47 from Megan Heaton, Sierra Girton and Makenzie Brown to round out its scoring.
Treash was also quick to point out how the seniors have helped draw the youthful squad together as the Knights have improved throughout the season. Monday's team score was the squad's second-best of the season.
"They interact with the freshmen and we've got a freshman girl who is our No. 1 and they don't treat her with any animosity. One of our seniors is our No. 6 player and may not play in the sectional, but she's still just as nice as can be to Keirsten (Mikesell). That just shows a lot character," Treash said.
The Knights host the sectional at Forest Park Golf Course on Saturday morning.
