Northview tennis gains WIC control

ELLETSVILLE -- The Northview boys' tennis team took control of the Western Indiana Conference race on Tuesday night by topping the Edgewood Mustangs in a 3-2 battle that propels the Knights to a 3-0 conference mark.

The Mustangs came away with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles as Brandon Owens topped Skyler Holifield by a 6-0, 6-1 score and the Knights' Bryce Britton lost to Luke Teague by a 7-6 (3), 6-0 score.

The tables turned in Northview's favor at No. 3 singles as Garrett Baysinger battled to a three-set win, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 score setting up the doubles action.

Cole Watts and Dillon Reynolds teamed to take a tie-breaker win, 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over Hayden Holmes and Jared Horne.

The pivotal final match was just beginning its third set as players and fans gathered to watch the contest between the Knights' Alec Coughanowr and Devin Clark facing Edgewood's Evan Mitchell and Bryan Wells.

Northview dropped the first set by a 7-6 score in a tiebreak before Clark and Coughanowr bounced back to even the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. The Knights were able to clinch the match and team victory by claiming a 6-1 win in set number three.

The Knights are now 9-4 overall and travel to West Vigo this evening at 5 p.m.
