North Clay volleyball handles Wildcats

North Clay came away with three wins against South Vermillion in volleyball action on Wednesday night.

The sixth-grade posted a 25-7, 25-10 victory as Payton Kumpf served up 13 points with an assist and a kill for the Knights. Hope Grady added eight service points to go with a kill and Emily Yocom contributed six points with an assist. Elle Tipton added to the balanced effort with five service points and a pair of assists. Maggie Mershon had two kills and four service points, Kennedy Enders had a point, an assist and a kill and both Dalyn Boor and Krislin Lemont had one point. Macey Johnson and Devon Krider both posted a kill.

The sixth-grade plays again on Sept. 22 at Woodrow Wilson.

In the seventh-grade match, the Knights came away with a decisive 25-8, 25-11 victory as both Stacy Payton and Kerstie Shaw had five aces and Payton added a kill in the win.

Sammie Thomas had four aces with one kill and Allison Herrick posted three aces, a kill and an assist. Kenzie Stearley had two aces as MaKenzie Stewart, Parker Spears and Quinn Albright each added an ace. Albright had two kills for the Knights and Stewart added on successful attack. Alisha Long and Megan Sampson each had an assist and Indya Trahan had a kill.

The eighth-grade posted a 25-14, 25-12 victory with Alyssa Yocom tallying a team-high three kills and three assists to go with three aces.

The Knights also got an assist from both Kaylee Cooper and Morgan Stearley with Madison McDonald and Stearley each scoring a pair of successful kill attempts. Gabby Horrall also had a kill for North Clay.

Alex Swaim had four aces, Stearley had three, Cooper had a pair of aces and McDonald added one. Ashley Heck led the team with nine service points with Cooper adding five. Bre Dove contributed two aces and Zoe Orman added three points.

Both the seventh- and-eighth-grade teams are now 8-0 overall and play Monday at home against Sullivan.
