Center Point remains on boil order

Friday, September 16, 2011

CENTER POINT -- Until further notice, the town of Center Point remains under a boil order.

According to officials, the town received a grant for $700,000 to upgrade the water and sewer systems.

The work on the water system, according to Town Council President Roy Smith, includes replacing fire hydrants and shutoff valves, installing a check valve to keep the water tower from emptying and replacing the town's booster pump and tower/booster pump controls.

Smith said in order to install hydrants and vales, water had to be down "intermittently." If the water were off, a boil order would be in place.

West Central Indiana Economic Development District (WCIEDD) representative Kristy Jerrell served as the grant administrator while Hannum, Wagle and Kline, Terre Haute, served as engineers for the project.

The boil order has not affected the Center Point fall festival tonight. Thanks to the Angel Falls water co. in Clay City.

They graciously donated 50 gallons of water to make tea and lemonade.
