Clay County residents have planned a benefit for one of their own.
The "Benefit For Courtney Lash," will take place Saturday, Sept. 24, at Northview High School.
According to one of the benefit organizers, Lindsey Mershon, Lash was in an automobile accident earlier this year at the Clay-Parke county line.
As a result of the accident, Lash was in the hospital for approximately a month. While currently at home, the benefit was scheduled to help offset medical costs.
In addition, a portion of the proceeds will go to the Van Buren Township Volunteer Fire Department.
"One of the firefighters was at the scene first," Mershon said. "They (the family) wanted to give them something because he saved her life."
Officials with Northview said Lash was a substitute teacher's aide at the school.
Mershon said there would be several things scheduled throughout the day.
A craft fair is set for 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and a silent auction will take place from 4-7 p.m.
In addition, a Country Rhodes Fish Fry will take place from 4-7 p.m. The meal will include fried walleye, popcorn shrimp and chicken strips as well as several sides. Tea and lemonade will be included. Soda and desserts will be sold separately.
Cost for the meal is $8.50 for adults and $5.50 for children. Purchasing tickets in advance is encouraged.
