Northview knocks off Patriots for sixth straight WIC title

The Northview boys' tennis team added another Western Indiana Conference championship to the trophy case on Wednesday night by defeating Owen Valley by a 4-1 score to complete an unbeaten WIC slate at 6-0.

The conference championship is Northview's sixth consecutive WIC title and improves the team's overall mark to 12-4.

"The kids really came to play tonight and we beat a very good Owen Valley tennis team," coach Craig Cook said.

The Knights swept play at doubles as Cole Watts and Dillon Reynolds topped Dalton Vest and Corbin Worland at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2. The No. 2 doubles team of Alec Coughanowr and Devin Clark were winners over Hogan McHaley and Noah Woodruff, 6-4, 6-3.

"Cole and Dillon beat a very experienced No. 1 doubles team from OV," Cook said. "Alec and Devin once again were rock solid at No. 2 doubles."

In singles play, Bryce Britton topped Jonathon Carey by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 2 and Garrett Baysinger won a 6-2, 6-3 match at No. 3 singles. Owen Valley claimed the No. 1 singles match as Kendal Norman defeated Skyler Holifield, 6-0, 6-2.

"Bryce and Garrett played very smart and were really steady in their singles matches," Cook said. "Skyler played one of the top-three kids in our conference who is only a freshman."

The Knights host the Northview Invitational on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

No. 1: Cole Watts/Dillon Reynolds (N) def. Dalton Vest/Corbin Worland (OV) 6-4, 6-2

No. 2: Alec Coughanowr/Devin Clark (N) def. Hogan McHaley/Noah Woodruff (OV) 6-4, 6-3

Northview wins the WIC for the 6th year in a row with a 6-0 record and his now 12-4 on the season. Northview will host the Northview Invitational on Saturday starting at 9 am.
