TERRE HAUTE -- The second Christian Store Week, Oct. 1-10, is a cooperative effort of U.S. Christian stores and World Vision to alleviate child hunger in the United States and around the world.
The Open Door, 3125 3rd Place, Terre Haute, is an official Christian Store Week retailer and has planned events, drawings and giveaways Oct. 1-10, to support the hunger-relief initiative.
The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization reports more than half the world's population lives in low-income, food-deficit countries that are unable to produce or import enough food to feed people.
The U.S. Census Bureau estimates about 10 percent of America's population lives in poverty. World Vision works in nearly 100 countries and several national urban and rural areas to provide food and other help to people.
World Vision is one of the World Food Program's largest non-governmental partners, distributing 830,000 metric tons of food commodities annually. The Open Door will sell "Feed My Flock," an enhanced CD featuring music and e-books from best-selling artists and authors, to raise awareness and support relief efforts.
