The Northview boys' tennis team prepared for sectional play this week by topping the four-team field at home in the Northview Invitational on Saturday with a score of 21 points to edge out Washington's 19 with Sullivan (8) in third and New Castle (7) in fourth.

The Knights earned three titles on Saturday as Bryce Britton won at No. 2 singles, Garretty Baysinger scored the victory at No. 3 singles and the veteran doubles team of Cole Watts and Dillon Reynolds were winners at No. 1.

Britton got his day off to a strong start by edging Sullivan's Chris Tryon in a match that was a tad closer than the earlier season match that Britton claimed by a 6-0, 6-1 score. On Saturday, Tryon proved to be a game opponent after losing the first set 6-1. The Arrows' No. 2 player battled Britton in set number two before succumbing 6-4.

In the championship, Britton faced off against Washington's Corey Thompson, who had advanced after a 6-1, 6-3 victory over New Castle's A.J. York. In the title tilt, Britton scrapped to a 6-4 win in the opening set before finishing off his Hatchet opponent, for a 6-4, 6-1 championship.

In the No. 3 singles race, Baysinger was a 6-3, 6-3 victor against Washington's Heath Goodwin and Sullivan's Jake Pirtle was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over New Castle's Dustin Gray. Baysinger then repeated his earlier season victory over Pirtle by scoring a 6-4, 6-1 win in the championship match to boost the team's advantage.

In doubles play, Reynolds and Watts got things underway with a victory against Washington's Matthew Pancake and Tyler Stoll, 6-2, 6-3. The Knights' duo then cruised in the title match by 6-0, 6-1 score over New Castle's Jake Nicholson and Thomas Gonya.

At No. 2 doubles, Alec Coughanowr and Devin Clark were paired against Dylan Clark and Mason Brown of New Castle in the opening match and the Knights claimed a hard fought, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-5 battle. However, in the championship match, the Knights fell to Washington's Jarron Robinson and Garrett Burton by a 7-5, 7-6 (5) score to finish third overall.

At No. 1 singles, Skyler Holifield lost in his first match against Sullivan's Luke Willis, 6-2, 6-1 and settled for fourth after losing 6-0, 7-6 (4) in the final match.

Next up for the Knights is sectional play beginning on Wednesday with the draw taking place this evening at 6 p.m.
