CLAY CITY -- North Clay topped the Clay City Eels in junior high volleyball action on Monday night with both the eighth and seventh-grade earning victories.
The eighth-grade Knights earned a 25-8, 25-13 victory as Morgan Stearley leading the team with four kills as both Ashley Heck and Alyssa Yocom each posting two. Both Zoe Orman and Madison McDonald had one kill apiece.
At the service line, Heck had a team-high seven points with an ace, McDonald had six points and an ace and Gracie Timberman also had six points to go with on ace. Breanna Dove had four points with three aces on the night, Yocom and Sydney Joliff had three points. Orman posted two points and two aces and both Kaylee Cooper and Kaytlin Galloway had two points with Gabby Horrall adding one point.
Stearley led the Knights with three assists, Yocom and McDonald each had two and Horrall had one. Heck added two digs and Timberman had one.
In the seventh-grade match, North Clay won a 25-10, 25-8 decision over the Eels.
Linzy Lunsford and Kenzi Stearley each had five aces in the win with Stearley adding two assists and Lunsford contributing a kill. Also for the Knights, Kerstie Shaw had four aces, Stacy Payton also had four aces with a kill and Allison Herrick posted two aces and two kills. Parker Spears added two aces and a kill, Alisha Long tallied two aces and Indya Trahan had one ace. Both Quinn Albright and MacKenzie Stewart added kills.
The Knights each improved to 11-0 this season and host Riverton Parke on Wednesday for the annual "Hit for the Hounds" benefit for the Humane Shelter beginning at 5:30 p.m. Clay City travels to Sullivan on Monday evening.
