The Clay County Chamber of Commerce and Clay County Farm Bureau, Inc., have teamed together to present the 2011 Municipal Election Political Forum. The event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the YMCA of Clay County, 225 E. Kruzan St., Brazil.
It is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., and will take place in the Y community room.
Clay County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Molly Tipton told The Brazil Times more than 40 invitations were sent out to county candidates. All candidates have been asked to RSVP by Oct. 10.
Local resident Mike Petersen will emcee the event.
The forum will follow the same format as the one which took place prior to the 2011 Primary. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions to the candidates and Petersen will add questions as well.
"The audience will be able to submit questions in advance," YMCA Executive Director Deborah Plummer said. "We will have the mayoral candidates in one group, Brazil City Council candidates (including the clerk-treasurer candidates) in one group and local town council candidates have also been invited.
"This will be very similar to what we have done in the past. We're happy to be able to provide a neutral location for the public to ask questions of their candidates and support local public policy."
Clay County Farm Bureau, Inc., President Marshall Nuckolls said he believed there would be a good turnout at the event.
"It's a good working relationship," Nuckolls said regarding Farm Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. "We've got to work together to make this thing go.
"(The forum) is a benefit to taxpayers and everybody in Clay County. I think there are some issues that need to be aired out."
Nuckolls said refreshments would be available at the event.
