Show raises money for children's coats

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

Community members have an opportunity to keep children warm this winter while enjoying local entertainment.

The Family Worship Center, Brazil, is hosting "Keep our Children Warm," Saturday, Oct. 8, from 5-8 p.m.

Event organizer Les Rivera will host the show, along with guest host mayoral candidate Steve Lamb.

"We're promoting it as kids reaching out to kids," Rivera said.

The show will include praise and worship music, live drama, stand-up comedy and a children's moment.

Performers include Blazing Heart youth group, Stick with Hymn youth group, Caleb Sutherland, Destinee Rivera, Lainey Coffin and comedy by "Uncle Les."

Cost for the show is a voluntary $3 donation.

The purpose of the event is to raise money to purchase new coats for children in need.

Anyone who needs a coat for his or her child may register at the show.

"Anyone who is registered is guaranteed a coat," Rivera said. "We don't want any of the kids to go without."

The cause isn't limited to Brazil or Clay County; Rivera explained coats would be given out until there is no longer a need.
