Marching Knights win at Center Grove

INDIANAPOLIS -- In preparation for Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Regional competitions, both the Clay City Imperial Regiment and Northview Marching Knights took part in weekend contests with good results.

Both county bands performed in the Cavalcade of Champions at Center Grove High School Saturday. In addition, Clay City also took part in the Warren Central Invitational.

Competing in Class B, the Marching Knights picked up a first-place finish at Center Grove, scoring an 81.35. Jasper was second at 78.65, followed by Plainfield (74.00), New Palestine (71.35), Pendleton Heights (67.95) and Columbus East (66.75).

Northview also captured Best Music, Best Visual and Best General Effect.

NHS band director Bob Medworth also said the Marching Knights were awarded a metronome, two Korg Tuners and an LP Jam Block.

The Imperial Regiment finished fifth in Class D at Center Grove, scoring a 60.80. Springs Valley won the invitational with a score of 707.15, followed by Monrovia (67.90), Morristown (64.90), Triton Central (60.85), Clay City, New Washington (60.55) and Crawford County (57.55).

Springs Valley won Best Music, Best Visual and Best General Effect.

In the Warren Central Invitational, the Imperial Regiment placed second, scoring a 63.85.

Paoli won the contest with a 70.20. Tri-Central was third with a 55.60.

Paoli won Best Music, Best Visual, Best General Effect, Best Auxiliary, Best Percussion and Best Drum Major.

Both Northview and Clay City will take part in the ISSMA Evansville Central Regional Saturday, Oct. 15.

A total of 28 Class D and B bands will perform at the event, with Class D kicking it off at 11 a.m.

Clay City is scheduled to perform at 1:10 p.m. Other Class D bands performing include Crawford County, Tell City, Eastern (Pekin), Henryville, North Posey, Springs Valley, New Washington, Perry Central, South Spencer, Forest Park, Mater Dei, South Knox, Orleans and Paoli.

The Marching Knights will take the field at 7:01 p.m. Other Class B bands performing include Bloomington North, New Palestine, Evansville North, Whiteland, Evansville Central, Evansville Harrison, Cathedral, Greenwood, F.J. Reitz, Plainfield, Jasper and Floyd Central.

If both bands advance, they will compete in ISSMA Semi-States, scheduled for Oct. 22. The Marching Knights would compete at Indianapolis Pike while the Imperial Regiment would compete at Franklin Community.

The ISSMA State Finals are scheduled for Oct. 29, at Lucas Oil Stadium.
