Volunteers from Operation First and Green who helped with the cleanup of a one-mile stretch of United States 40 recently included Koby Rhodes, Isaac Bahney, Kole Smith and Trevor Smith.
Operation First and Green hosted a highway cleanup in Brazil Sept. 24.

Volunteers cleaned up a one-mile stretch on both sides of United States 40 from Kroger to Walmart.

Kole Smith, member of the Green Corps and director of the event said it was very successful.

Students from both Clay City and Northview high schools were invited and volunteers collected approximately 60 pounds of trash.

Operation First and Green is an organization created by the 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee, which will take place in Indianapolis.

The goal of the program is to inform Indiana residents regarding how to become more environmentally aware.

By joining First and Green Environmental Challenge, participants become active in helping to make a difference in offsetting carbon and saving water.

In addition to tracking all of the statistics related to carbon and water, First and Green also educates regarding environmental issues affecting the state by providing tips that help make a difference every day.
