Thursday, October 13, 2011

The Clay City Imperial Regiment will perform at 1:10 p.m., Saturday in the Indiana State School Music Association Regional Contest at Evansville Central.
Heading into regional competition, the Northview Marching Knights have made a splash in the weekly state rankings.

For the fifth week of the season, Indianamarching.com writers had the Marching Knights ranked second in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Class B poll.

Last week, the Knights ranked fifth overall with 112 points. However, after a solid showing at the Cavalcade of Champions at Center Grove last week, Northview jumped to the second spot in the rankings.

The Marching Knights tallied 139 votes, including three first-place votes in this week's poll.

Goshen earned the top spot in the poll with 147 votes and seven firsts.

Coming in third was Greenwood with 132 votes, followed by Jasper with 117, Concord with 115, Floyd Central with 89, Plainfield with 88, New Castle with 80, DeKalb with 71 and Munster with 70.

All 10 bands were in the top 10 in last week's poll as well. However, Greenwood fell from first to third and Munster dropped from eighth to 10th.

In the Class D poll, the Clay City Imperial Regiment continues to earn votes, tallying six this week.

Springs Valley still leads the Class D poll with 149 votes, including nine firsts.

Lewis Cass was second with 137, followed by Forest Park with 134 (one first-place nod), Mater Dei with 111, Paoli with 109, Monrovia with 106, Woodland with 91, Orleans with 81, Adams Central with 65 and North Posey with 54.

According to this week's poll, Northview is the top-rated Class B band in the south. In addition, Clay City is rated the ninth-best band in Class D.
