McCarty honored as flight nurse

Samantha McCarty, base clinical lead for the Brazil Air Evac Lifeteam base, was recently selected as the company's National 2011 Flight Nurse of the Year.

McCarty and other winners were announced during the company's awards ceremony Oct. 1, at its headquarters in West Plains, Mo.

The National Flight Nurse of the Year is presented to the nurse who works as a team player, demonstrates a desire to increase knowledge and skills and actively pursues opportunities to promote Air Evac in communities.

Air Evac Lifeteam Senior Medical Director Dr. Kelly Cox said McCarty was an "integral part of the Brazil crew."

"Samantha is an extraordinary person and clinician who epitomizes nursing at its finest," Cox said. "She is highly skilled, compassionate and consistently displays the highest ethical standards."

Cox said since McCarty's arrival at Air Evac in 2005, she has "positively impacted her co-workers, her patients and just about everybody she has come into contact with."

McCarty resides in Dennison, Ill.

Air Evac Lifeteam is a membership-supported air ambulance company that provides emergency care and rapid medical transport to rural communities throughout the central United States.

The company operates 104 bases in 14 states.

It's not the size of the wand, it's the magic in it .. ! Being recognized for all her hard work is an honor.

More people should be as appreciative as she is.

I bet you two complained about the size of your Christmas presents when you were little, too.
