Rolene Moore, 89, Clay City, passed away at Regional Hospital, in the early morning of Oct. 26, 2011, following a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 25, 1921, the daughter of Roll and Dora (King) Moore. Rolene graduated from Clay City High School with the class of 1940 and received a Bachelors Degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1944 in education. She later earned a Masters Degree in education from Indiana State University in 1958. Rolene began her teaching career in special education in eastern Illinois. She also taught in Plainfield and concluded her career in Clay County at Forest Park Elementary School after 46 years in education.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa and volunteered for Head Start.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roll and Dora Moore; cousins Madonna King Atkinson, Fred E. King, Max King, Marshall King Jr. and Helen King Omer.
She is survived by her cousins Tom Atkinson and wife Joy; Elliott Atkinson and Evan Atkinson, all of Delphi, Ind.; Susan Fagg and husband Mike, Clay City; Summer Long and husband Greg, Morrison, Ill.; and close friend of the family Wayne Atkinson, Terre Haute.
Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at 3 p.m., with Pastor Steve Rundel officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
