NMK earns votes in final Class B poll

Heading into the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) State Finals, the Northview Marching Knights continue to receive votes in the Indianamarching.com Class B poll.

The final poll of the 2011 ISSMA season has NMK ranked fifth overall. Northview earned 71 votes in the poll, including one first-place vote.

Concord is the top-rated band in the final poll, with 91 votes, including five firsts. Greenwood came in second with 85 votes, two of which were first-place nods, followed by Goshen at third with 80 votes and one first-place vote, and Jasper in fourth with 73 votes, including one first.

Coming in sixth is Floyd Central with 47 votes, followed by DeKalb (37), North Side (26), Plainfield (25) and Munster (15).

Class B bands earning honorable mention status included New Castle, F.J. Reitz, Bloomington North, Zionsville and Evansville Harrison.

The ISSMA State Finals are scheduled for Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Bands in Class D will kick off the festivities at 10 a.m.

Class B bands are scheduled to take the field at 1:15 p.m., with the Greenwood.

Plainfield will follow at 1:28 p.m., followed by DeKalb (1;41), Munster (1:54), Goshen (2:07), North Side (2:20), Concord (2:33), Northview (2:46), Jasper (2:59) and Floyd Central (3:12).

Greenwood captured the 2010 Class B title, while Goshen placed second. Concord came in third and Jasper was fourth.

The Marching Knights finished fifth last year, followed by Floyd Central, Northridge, DeKalb, North Side and Bloomington North.

Saturday's state finals appearance will be the 25th consecutive for the Marching Knights.

Since 1987, Northview has won eight Class B state titles, the last coming in 2009. Only Greenwood can match that success, tallying 11 championships.

In contrast, Munster will be making its first appearance in the state finals Saturday.
