INDIANAPOLIS -- The end result didn't matter to members of the Northview Marching Knights and the NMK staff.

They were proud.

After placing fourth Saturday at the 2011 Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Class B Marching Band State Finals, NMK Director Bob Medworth said he believed while the Marching Knights had their share of problems during the final performance of the year, he was pleased.

"It wasn't our best," Medworth said. "We got off to a bad start on the first three pages of drill. I'm not sure why. It went different for some reason. I could have seen us finish anywhere.

"But they recovered and from where I stood, I felt good."

The Concord Marching Minutemen won the Class B title. Following Concord was Greenwood, Jasper, Northview, Goshen, Floyd Central, Plainfield, DeKalb, North Side and Munster.

Medworth said Northview is known for taking chances. After Saturday's show, he said that would not change.

"We took a chance blending rock music with classical music," he said. "We don't do anything safe. We're always going to take a bit of a chance somewhere."

The Marching Knights' 2011 show, "Flite of Spring," incorporated several elements musically. And from the beginning notes of the show, the crowd was ready to respond, roaring throughout Northview's performance.

"All in all, it was one of the best years," Medworth said. "We had fun. We practiced well and we had fun performing."

Medworth said the Marching Knights will graduate 23 seniors heading into 2012, including drum major Rachel Reese.

"They really worked hard," he said. "For the most part, they set good examples. They've been with it. Each year, our seniors get a little better."
