Albert Andrew Landes, 93, died Monday, Oct. 31, at Cloverleaf Healthcare of Knightsville.

Born July 2, 1918, in Putnam County, he was the son of John H. and M. Alice Girton Landes.

He graduated from Van Buren High School in 1936, and began his career at Adamson Lumber Company in Harmony until inducted into the U.S. Army in December 1942. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in September 1943, due to service-related disability.

He married Virginia Adamson Beckley in August 1955. She passed away Feb. 20, 1993.

He attended church regularly at Northside Church of Christ in Terre Haute. In addition, he was a stalwart booster of Northview and Clay City athletics, attending as many games as possible. His cared-for historic one-room schoolhouse at Vinegar Hill near Center Point is a familiar sight along State Road 42.

Albert's parents, his wife, a stepson (Phil Beckley), five sisters (Rachel Duzenberry, Iva Miller, Myrtle Logan Boyd, Emma Skomp and Nellie McMurray) and three brothers (Virgil Landes, Irvin Landes and Lester Landes) preceded him in death.

Survivors include stepson L. Alan Beckley (Anne), Brazil, and stepdaughters Carol Sue Jack, Fishers, Ind., and Lucinda F. Beckley, Oakland, Calif. Other survivors include grandsons Michael A. Jack (Kim), Phil Beckley, Colin Beckley and Ben Beckley, and granddaughters Christina Marcuson (Greg) and Rachel Latta (Chase). In addition, survivors include great-grandchildren Luca, Jack, Caelan, Jack, Gabriella, Guy, Mikhail Marcuson, Adam Marcuson and Molly Marcuson, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services will be at 11 a.m., in Lawson-Miller Chapel, Thursday, Nov. 3. Burial will follow in Calcutta Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4-8 p.m.
