The Megenhardt family celebrated 158 years in America at their 71st reunion on August 28, at Forest Park in Brazil. A delicious carry-in meal was shared by 70 family members and one guest.

The oldest family member present was John David Megenhardt, 84, rural Coal City. The youngest child present and also attending her first reunion was Ella Drake, daughter of Sean and Autumn Drake, Brazil.

Descendants from four branches of the William and Barbara Megenhardt family were in attendance. Present from the William (Billy) Megenhardt branch were Rosemary Killion; Ron Killion; Sean, Autumn and Ella Drake. In attendance from the Ellen (Megenhardt) Travis branch were Roy, LaVonne and Joe Waldron; Marvin, Jill, Travis and Tanner Strauch; Bud, Donnetta and Tyler Travis; Vic and Theada Morris.

Also, attending from the Charles Megenhardt branch were Kenny, Judy, Caroline and Mary Sebastian and John Miller. The David Megenhardt branch once again had the largest attendance: J. David and Deloris Megenhardt; Wayne, Peggy, Matthew, Claudia and Alexus Burger; Terrence, Mahala, Deven and Kamryn Burger; Larry and Darlene Megenhardt; James, Cindy, Hannah and Mary Megenhardt; Paul, Ginger, Megan and David Singleton; John, Penny and Michael Megenhardt; Bob, Dee and Bryce Greenman and guest, Katherine Brown; Barbie, Jena, Chad and Derek Braun; Howard and Grace Dunigan; Greg, Jamie, Hayden and Dietrich Dunigan; Tom, Danette and Brittany Robinson; Darral and Dona Duncan; J.R., Tonya and Taylor Prentice; Pat, Rhonda and Mariah Duncan.

Officers for the coming year are: Larry Megenhardt, president; Peggy Burger, vice president; Penny Megenhardt, secretary/treasurer; and Darlene Megenhardt, drink committee.

President Larry Megenhardt encouraged everyone to attend the 72nd reunion which will be held Aug. 26, 2012, at Forest Park in Brazil. Family photos were taken following the business meeting. Relatives also enjoyed viewing old photos and visiting on a slightly breezy but pleasant August afternoon.
