The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Coats Available

Les Rivera, along with Coats for Kids, is working to keep those in Clay County in need, warm. Rivera purchases coats from a bulk manufacturer for reasonable prices, to give to those in need. Those interested can reach Rivera at 812-241-6421.

Assistance Program

Applications for the Clay County Christmas Assistance Program are available through the Clay County Department of Child Services, the Brazil Housing Authority and Hamilton Center, Inc.

Parents need to list the number of children they have custody of and the most important needs of the children.

The form will also ask for the children's clothing sizes.

The form must be returned by the end of business day Nov. 11, to one of the above listed locations.

Shop With A Cop

The Brazil City Police Department is now accepting applications from people and families interested in its Shop-With-A-Cop program.

Applications may be picked up at the department.

All applications are due by Nov. 30.

Picking Up Leaves

The City of Brazil leaf pickup this year will be as follows:

* Week 2 -- North of United States 40 and west of State Road 59 to Deer Creek Monday through Friday,

* Week 3 -- South of U.S. 40 and east of SR 59 to Edgewood Nov. 14-18, and

* Week 4 -- South of U.S. 40 and west of SR 59.

There will be one pass only.

Those interested should call 448-8501 to be put on the pickup list.

Property Tax Reminder

The second installment of Clay County property taxes are due Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011.

Normal business hours for the Clay County Treasurer's Office are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

The office will extend its hours on the following days:

* Today -- 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Tax payments will also be accepted at the following Clay County bank branches: First Financial Bank, Terre Haute Savings Bank and Riddell National Bank.

Book Signing

Local author Marjorie E. Hopkins will conduct a book signing event at the Vigo County Library Saturday, Nov. 12.

The event will take place from 10 a.m.-noon, in conjunction with the Vigo County Library Friends of the Library Book Sale.

The library is located at 1 Library Square, Terre Haute.

Hopkins, a Brazil resident, will be available to sign copies of her book, "Dying to Meet Him; Wit and Wisdom from a Funeral Director's Wife."

Turkey Supper

The annual Cory Zion Church Turkey Supper will take place Saturday, Nov. 12, from 4-8 p.m., at the Family Life Center next to the church.

Cost is a free will offering.

Carry-out will be available and delivery will be in the Cory area.

Reality Store

Clay Business Women, in partnership with Terre Haute Savings Bank, will present the 20th annual Reality Store at North Clay Middle School, Monday, Nov. 14, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Leap Into the Future is a virtual hands-on learning experience for North Clay and Clay City eighth-graders to give them a taste of what life is will be like as adults.

Meeting Rescheduled

The Brazil Parks and Recreation Board has changed its November meeting date.

The board will meet Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 6:30 p.m., at Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

Basket Bingo

The Northview High School Band Boosters will sponsor a Basket Bingo for the Northview Marching Knights Wednesday, Nov. 16., at the Kennedys Crossing Bingo Hall, one block north of the high school.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the event beginning at 6:30.

Cost at the door will be $20.

Youth Craft

The Brazil Public Library will host a youth craft for children 7-under Thursday, Nov. 17, from 6-7:30 p.m.

The craft, painting a wooden Christmas ornament, will be free and open to the public.

Special Visit

Those attending the Brazil Public Library Thursday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m., will have the opportunity to paint a laser-etched wooden Christmas ornament.

A brief presentation by Laser Art Studios representatives Ray and Mary Staub, will begin the evening. They will discus the Epilog Laser and how to paint the ornament.

The event is free and open to the public.

Pre-registration is required for the program.

Pottery Show

The Wabash Valley Antique Bottle and Pottery Club will present the 14th Illiana Antique Bottle and Pottery Show and Sale Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Shadow Auction Barn, 1517 Maple Ave., Terre Haute.

Show hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Admission to the event is free.

In addition, the Historical Bottle and Pottery Auction will take place Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m.

Blood Drive

Indiana Blood Center hosts hundreds of blood drives each month.

There will be a blood drive in Clay County in November.

The event will take place from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at Annunciation Church.

Pageant

The annual Snowflake Pageant, sponsored by Christmas In The Park, will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, at North Clay Middle School.

Categories include King and Queen, Prince and Princess and Duke and Duchess.

Cost to enter the pageant is $25 per child.

A parent meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:45 p.m., at the studio, located on the corner of Sherfey and Jackson streets.

Dinner Time!

First Baptist Church, 413 S. Walnut St., Brazil, will conduct its 26th Thanksgiving Dinner Nov. 24.

Serving will begin at noon.

There will be no charge to attend.

Delivery will be available for homebound residents in the Brazil area.
