City council makes traffic changes

After the Brazil City Council meeting Wednesday night, motorists might notice traffic changes in areas of the city.

The council voted to pass Ordinance No. 16-2011, which establishes a 25 mph speed zone for vehicles traveling west on Jackson Street, to the corporate limits of the city.

The ordinance also establishes a 25 mph speed zone for both Hendrix Street, from State Road 59 to Murphy Avenue and Murphy from Hendrix Street to United States 40.

Both areas of change were previously marked as 20 mph speed zones.

Meanwhile, the council adopted Ordinance 17-2011, which will place a stop sign at Harry Shearer Drive and Bill Brown Court. It had come to the council's attention there have been a few cases of near miss crashes, which prompted the council to place a stop sign at the intersection.

The council will meet again Nov. 30, before its next scheduled monthly meeting. The Brazil City Council meets regularly the second Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m., in Brazil City Hall.
