Drexel was born July 28, 1939, in Clay City, the son of Alvin Leo and Virginia Ruth (Ellis) Cooprider. He married Merrilen Bridgewaters June 26, 1959. Drexel had worked as a farmer and mechanic but most of his life he spent working as a tree trimmer. Over the years he had worked for Townsend, Asplundh, NG Gilbert, Lewis and White Water tree services. He also worked for the Brazil City Street Department and retired from IAC, in Greencastle in 1993.
In his free time he enjoyed bowling, roller skating, fishing, "tinkering" with cars and mowers, hunting and spending time outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Russell Cooprider.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years; children, Allen Cooprider (Wanda), Brazil, Raymond Cooprider (Tessa), Lena, Barb Sutherlin (Gary), Brazil, Billy Cooprider, Brazil, David Cooprider, Staunton; grandchildren, Danny Fagg (Angie Vester), Heather Bond (Charles), James Cooprider (Sarah), Nathaniel Cooprider, Kaitlynn Cooprider, Brittnee Cooprider, Kristina Cooprider and Kylee Cooprider and a step granddaughter, Kalie Hensley; great grandchildren, Molly Fagg, Sunnie Cooprider, Skye Cooprider, Anastasia Bond, Joshua Bond and Jordan Lee Fagg; step great grandchildren, Halie Beard, Tim Burns, Robby Stivey; sisters, Sharron Bose and Debbera Wager; sister-in-law, Louise Dodson, Indianapolis; step sister, Nancy Black, Lafayette, as well as many extended family members.
Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at 1 p.m., with Pastor David Fleetwood officiating. Burial will follow at Sulfur Springs Cemetery.
