First-hand experience is important in any field, and students in Janet Grey's Beginning Nutrition and Wellness class learned that Wednesday.

Page's Bakery and Deli Manager Lee Ann Droste paid a visit to the students in the class Wednesday and explained the art of cookie decorating.

"Creativity is a big part of decorating," Droste said.

While there, Droste showed the students how to plaster frosting on the cookie using plastic utensils.

"This is a skill (students) can use for personal (use) or to supplement their income," Grey said. "These are skills that are important. It crosses all areas.

"Cooking in general is the type of skill that will help everybody."

Grey said the class lies in the Family and Consumer Science Department. Approximately 20 students are enrolled in the class, ranging from freshmen to seniors.

"It's a mixture," Grey said.

Droste has also instructed Grey's Advanced Foods and Nutrition class on the art of cake decorating.
