TERRE HAUTE -- The Indiana State Sycamores built a lead that would reach as many as 20 points early in the second half and then held on late to earn a 57-50 victory over Ball State in front of 5,773 fans inside Hulman Center.

The Sycamores improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 campaign while the Cardinals fell to 0-2.

Under second-year head coach Greg Lansing the Sycamores are now a perfect 17-0 when holding the opposition to less than 63 points, including a record of 8-0 when holding teams to 53 or less.

Dwayne Lathan came off the bench to lead the Sycamores with 13 points as he went 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Lathan was 1-of-2 with 23 seconds left in the contest after he grabbed a long defensive rebound with ISU up five points to stretch the lead out to 56-50. The Sycamores sealed the victory with a free throw by Printy with 22 seconds left and then Lathan grabbed a defensive rebound with seven seconds left after the Cardinals missed a pair of 3-pointers in the final 10 seconds.

Joining Lathan in double figures scoring was Carl Richard who scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds. Richard has reached double figures in each of the Sycamores' first three contests. Printy made it two games in a row in double figures as he was 3-of-5 from 3-point range to score 10 points.

Printy's trio of triples give him 159 career treys which is third most in the history of the Sycamore basketball program and is just two behind Eddie Bird's 161 for second.

The Sycamores hit 18-of-45 shots from the field, connecting at a 40 percent clip, after hitting 11-of-26 in the opening stanza (42.3 percent) as ISU built a 38-19 advantage.

Carl Richard made it 41-21 with 18:52 left in the game as he knocked down his second 3-pointer of the game as the Sycamores grabbed their largest advantage of the contest.

Ball State scored the game's next nine points to make it 41-30 with 15:59 on the clock but Jake Kitchell scored on an offensive putback at the 13:11 mark for a 43-30 lead. Lathan added a long defensive rebound and a fast break dunk for a 45-30 lead on the next possession.

Printy hit his third 3-pointer of the game with 7:52 on the clock in the second half for a 53-36 lead, but BSU responded with a pair of quick 3-pointers to make it 53-42. The Cardinals run reached 12-0 as the Sycamore lead was down to 53-48 at the 3:38 mark.

Kitchell hit a lay-up at the 2:16 mark as the Sycamores lead expanded out to 55-48. Randy Davis hit a driving lay-up with 1:14 left on the clock which set up each team trading a missed basket before Aaron Adeoye was whistled for a flagrant personal foul and ISU held on for a 57-50 victory.

Jauwan Scaife led Ball State with 15 points as the Cardinals were held to just 4-of-21 shooting from 3-point range (19 percent).

Indiana State returns to action on Monday when they host Green Bay inside Hulman Center at 7:05 p.m. (ET).
