United Way colleges team together

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

TERRE HAUTE -- Local colleges will be partnering Saturday for "Wrapping for United Way," at Honey Creek Mall to benefit United Way of the Wabash Valley.

Students from Harrison College, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Indiana State University and Ivy Tech Community College will be wrapping gifts from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The wrapping station will be between JC Penney's and West Coast Air Brush on the west side of the mall.

Gift wrapping will be free, but donations will be accepted. The gift wrapping is for mall purchases only.

Dottie King, President of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, and Brennan Randolph, President of Harrison College, are the United Way of the Wabash Valley's 2011 Higher Education Chairs.

Together, they developed an event to get local college students involved in volunteerism and helping the community with the goal of getting students engaged in their community at a young age to hopefully foster a lifetime commitment to bettering the community in which they live.

"The event should be a great success and hopefully help out some exhausted shoppers with their holiday gift wrapping," United Way of the Wabash Valley Executive Director Troy Fears said.
