A second half flurry of 3-pointers by visiting West Vigo and the Knights' own free throw shooting woes allowed the Viking freshmen to escape with a 34-30 victory on Wednesday.

The Northview boys played from behind much of the evening as West Vigo's Braiden Cardinal propelled his team to a 9-4 lead after one quarter by posting five of his seven points in the opening period. The Knights were able to claw back within a single point at halftime as Paul Dickison knocked down a 3-pointer in the first half and Jacob Harden added four points and a pair of boards in quarter number two.

Opening the second half, Gabe Rogers scored on a drive to the hoop, but missed his foul shot, which was a harbinger of things to come.

Northview led 15-14 at that point, but the Vikings got a score by Alex West and a 3-pointer from Connor Lindsay to extend a 19-15 advantage. The Knights would rally on a 3-pointer of their own from Dickison and Harden provided a free throw to tie the score at 19-all.

However, Rogers and Blair traded 3-pointers for each team to put the Vikings ahead by a 24-22 score heading to the final quarter.

In the fourth, Harden tied the score with a bucket for the Knights, but West Vigo would extend its lead on Blair's second 3-pointer of the game and Haden Corenflos scored off an offensive rebound to push the gap to 29-24. Northview would get burned by Blair one more time as he was left wide open in the corner for his third 3-pointer to put the game out of reach at 32-26.

The Knights would rally on two free throws from Harden and a steal and lay-in by Rogers, but the Vikings closed out the win.

Overall, free throws were a contributing factor in the loss as Northview hit only 3-of-10 from the line.

Northview (1-1 overall) plays at Terre Haute North at 6 p.m. on Friday night.
