Northview High School will officially get into the Christmas spirit Thursday.
The school's annual Christmas Spectacular will take place beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. Performances are also scheduled for Friday, also at 7 p.m., and Sunday, at 2 p.m.
Cost for tickets is $6. Tickets are currently on sale at the NHS music office from 8 a.m.-noon. All seats are reserved.
Several programs will participate in the event this year.
NHS band director Bob Medworth said the concert band will "entertain audiences with a variety of holiday standards."
Some of the songs the band will perform include "Need a Little Christmas," "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "White Christmas," "Carol of the Bells," and Twas the Night Before Christmas," in addition to more.
The Northview Winter Guard will perform its version of "Parade of the Wood Soldiers," a piece that originated in the first Radio City Christmas Show in 1933, with choreography by Russell Markert.
Guard members will also perform a 50s style dance to "Jingle Bell Rock," written by Bobby Helms of Bloomington, Ind.
The NHS choirs will perform several holiday favorites from a jazzy arrangement of "Up on the Housetop," to the ballad, "I'll be Home For Christmas."
The Symphonic Choir will sing songs taking a look at the holiday season from a more mature perspective, while the Knight Singers will perform a piece in which their voices become Christmas bells.
The Knight Shades, a new choral ensemble, will also be a highlight this year. The swing/jazz choir is made up of 11 singers who perform primarily a cappella music.
As well, a special feature this year will be the combined performance of the percussion and choir students in the Nigerian Christmas song, "Betelehemu."
The Northview percussion ensemble will perform, "Carol of the Bells." The version was arranged by North Clay Middle School Assistant Principal Pete Kikta and touches on the melody of the carol, but adds percussive twists.
The Northview Drama department will also present skits that reflect on the more mature elements of Christmas. The performance will include "A Midnight Clear," "The Refrigerator and Christmas Memories," and "Valentine Christmas Tree."
