Knights compete at Westfield Shamrock Duals; See goes unbeaten

Monday, December 5, 2011

Times Staff Report

WESTFIELD -- The Northview Knights finished 11th in the 16-team Westfield Shamrock Duals on Saturday.

The Knights went 1-4 in dual matches during the afternoon with a 63-16 victory over TC Howe and losses to the host Shamrocks, Zionsville, Mt. Vernon and Princeton during the day. Terre Haute South placed seventh with a 3-2 mark during the meet.

"Overall it was a very tough day," coach Dan Mikesell said. "We had two dual meets I felt we should have won that we didn't. We are young and learning on the fly. Hopefully we can continue to work hard and not let this set us back."

Despite a disappointing finish in the team rankings, the Knights did have several big individual efforts including Aaron See's unbeaten day with a 5-0 record. He was joined by Justin Sampson, who compiled a 4-1 mark at 285 pounds. Jessie Miller went 3-2 on the afternoon.

"Aaron wrestled very well and looked to be on pace for the type of season he wants. Justin had a nice day and was just one point from going undefeated," Mikesell said of Sampson. "Jesse Miller did some nice things and is making real progress, he lost to two semi-state caliber kids, one of them was a very close 4-3 decision. I think he can build on that."

Mikesell was also pleasantly surprised by Levi Brown's 3-2 mark on Saturday afternoon. He was joined by Caleb Nicosin and Baylor Girton with 3-2 records.

"Levi Brown was a pleasant surprise at 170. For having such little experience I was very pleased with his wrestling," Mikesell said.

The Knights will host Owen Valley on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m. The wrestling team along with FCA and Bible Club will be taking donations for the Toys for Tots campaign Dec. 5 through Dec. 10.

Donations will be taken at the door for the wrestling matches against Owen Valley on Wednesday and during the Marine Cpl. Greg Stultz Memorial Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Toys need to be unwrapped and new.
