Harmony Happenings

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

Much of the news is a repeat and reminder of items from last week. The new big event for the Roach family is that we finally have Niece Erin's arrival date.

She will fly in from Florida on the 4th of January, and we will have our Roach Family Christmas during the week she is home. Can't wait!

Toys for Tots are in need of donations. They need toys, books, stocking stuffers and money. All the things that are collected here in Clay County go to Clay County kids.

The families who have signed up are given an appointment time.

Each child can then choose three things that are in their age category.

Then each gets some stocking stuffers and a book. I heard that they needed more items for boys.

The Toys for Tots distribution site is Harmony United Methodist Church.

It is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17. Several businesses have toy boxes or money cans for donations.

For more information, contact Debbie Weaver, Janet Elliott or Rita Jones.

Rita is the contact person for our church 448-2664.

HUMC will have a Happy Birthday Jesus Party on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 2-4 p.m.

They will have crafts, snacks, songs, stories, and a red-suited guest. All children are welcome.

Jane Osborne still needs helpers for the day.

Please contact her if you are available. I did not get a chance to check on refreshments. I assume those are needed, too. Call Jane at 446-1322.

Our Sunday School Class will have a pitch-in breakfast on Dec. 18.

Everyone is asked to bring something to share.

We will probably pass a sign-up sheet this Sunday.

Clay County Retired Teachers had a Coffee at Goodies Galore on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Everyone ordered what they wanted from the menu.

We had a great visit and turned in our volunteer hours for 2011.

Carolyn Tausig will total all the sheets and send them in to Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

If anyone was unable to attend the Coffee, please contact Carolyn Tausig to give her your hours. Contact Carolyn at (812) 864-2736 or mail it to her.

The folks at the Coffee decided to table our project until we have more time to hear from more retirees.

Another good idea was mentioned.

Odena Harper suggested that we have a service project to make fleece lap quilts for retired teachers who are homebound or in nursing homes. Several people really liked that idea too.

Harmony United Methodist Women will not have a regular meeting this month.

The Christmas Party will be over by the time this comes out.

I am writing on Wednesday while the dough is rising in a bowl.

I plan to make a cinnamon roll for my gift exchange this evening. Ground beef is thawing for the meatloaf.

Let you know next week how it all came out.

Folks from HUMC will go Christmas Caroling on Friday, Dec. 16.

The group plans to visit three nursing homes. David and Cheryl Brinson have invited the singers to their house afterward. It will be a fun time. Join us.

No one should be bored this time of year. There are so many organizations needing help now and throughout the year.

LEAAP Center needs volunteers that can pass a background check.

Silver Sneakers needed more help making dinner for the folks at the House of Hope.

They had five but needed 10.

Salvation Army needed bell ringers. I don't know if they were able to get enough or not. Court system always needs advocates for children.

Serving on the Streets needs help with just about everything and money, too.

Help where you can. It feels good.

There are groups that make caps for premature babies, lap quilts and bonnets for cancer victims that have lost their hair.

One lady, who can't get around well herself, has made over 70 little caps for babies.

One friend likes to cook for people.

If you have some time, there is probably someone who could use your help.

Happy Birthday to Mannah Mace (8th), Rae Anne Howald (9th), Tia Jones (10th), Asher Mace & Opal Schopmeyer, Mary Lou Thompson (11th), Harold Pell (12th), Cousin Dave Clark (13th), Warren Bell & Betty Evans (22nd), Amaya Jones (24th), Brad & Chris Pell & Mandy Escott (25th), Sandy Jenkins (31). Happy Anniversary Suzy and Mike Morgan (11th), John & Christine Clark (17th).
