The Northview freshman basketball team lost Thursday night to Terre Haute South, 34-31, bringing their record to 1-4.

The Knights got down early but continued battling to keep the game close. Northview's Gabe Rodgers led the way in the first quarter with four points, on his way to a 10-point game.

By the end of the quarter the Knights trailed 12-7.

In the second quarter, the Knights played more consistent defense, which slowed down the South offense and allowed them to chip away at the lead.

Rodgers continued to play well in the quarter, tallying another four points. Other offensive contributors in the quarter included Keegan Roembke and Antoney Bryan with two points each.

By halftime, the Knights were only trailing by a score of 18-15.

In the third quarter, the Knights and Braves both struggled offensively only putting up six points each in the quarter.

A bright spot for the Knights in the quarter was Jacob Harden, who controlled the paint on defense and grabbed four boards.

At the end of the third quarter the Knights were unable to pull any closer than three points, and went into the 4th trailing 24-21.

In the fourth, Harden continued to play well, tallying five points, which included an and-one, which brought him to eight points on the night.

The Knights had many opportunities to take control of the game, but couldn't make enough plays to take the lead.

In the waning moments of the game, on two separate possessions, the Knights had opportunities to tie the game, but came up empty after going down low to Harden, who couldn't finish at the basket.

After the last miss, the Knights fouled to put the Braves on the line, where they converted one, but missed the second leaving Harden, who rebounded the miss, with a full court Hail Mary shot that fell short, making the final score 31-34.

The teams then played two quarters of reserve time. The visiting Braves proved too much for the Knights to handle, defeating the home team 22-8.

Leading scorers for the Knights reserve was Antoney Bryan and Nick McCollum with three points and two points respectively.
