Clay Shealy Tobias, 52, Terre Haute, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 4, 2011.

Clay was born July 4, 1959, the son of Myra and Leon Tobias, Saluda, S.C.

After growing up in Columbia, S.C., he attended the University of South Carolina, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Clay was employed at Tredegar Industries as a Project Engineer.

He attended the First United Church of Christ in Clay City.

Besides volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, he also enjoyed bluegrass music, playing the banjo, fishing, gardening, word games, working with wood and mushroom hunting.

Clay is survived by his parents, daughter Sarah M. Tobias, Clay City, brothers Mark Tobias, Saluda, S.C., Jody Tobias and wife Lorrie, Gaston, S.C., niece Greta Tobias, Gaston, S.C., nephew Justice Tobias, Gaston, S.C., along with many extended family members.

The memorial service is Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at 3 p.m., with Pastor David Jennys officiating at Lawson-Miller Chapel.

The visitation is at 1 p.m., until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or Habitat for Humanity.
