Janie Osborn reported 22 kids attended the Happy Birthday Jesus Party on Saturday, Dec. 10. Both helpers and children had a good time.
Our Sunday School Class will have a pitch-in breakfast on Sunday, December 18, starting about 10:30. Everyone is asked to bring something to share. Stoney Stitzle said he would bring the bread. Rita and Greg Jones are fixing cinnamon rolls. I am making a breakfast casserole. Betty Julbert had not yet decided on what she would make for the occasion. You're invited to join us.
The Harmony United Methodist Women's Christmas Party went very well. With all the schedule conflicts, we were glad 15 ladies were able to come together for good fellowship and a fun gift exchange.
Judy Maurer left the Christmas Party to head to a very important engagement party. Son Michael Maurer and fiancÚ Colleen were announcing the big news. Their wedding date is set for Oct. 20, 2012. Congratulations.
Folks from HUMC will go Christmas Caroling on Friday, Dec. 16. We will meet at the church at 6:15, and re-assemble at Cloverleaf at 6:30, for the first set of carols. The group plans to visit two nursing homes and Jackson Gardens. David and Cheryl Brinson have invited the singers to their house afterward. It will be a fun time. Join us.
We will have a Christmas Card Exchange at HUMC this Sunday. We all forgot to remind each other to bring paper bags. Each family decorated a bag last year. Those of us with artistic tendencies made bags for those who were absent. It was easy to just find the name and drop in the cards. We all goofed this year because too many things were going on at the same time. Everyone is encouraged to continue the card tradition, with or without a paper bag mailbox.
There have been and continue to be several Christmas events going on in the area. Kenda Dierdorf reported that the Northview Spectacular was very good. Becky Jeffers and Pastor Terry attended the Angela Lilly Trio at Lincoln College. Becky said it was wonderful. HUMC will have open communion on Dec. 24, from 6-6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come by.
Congratulations to our Jackson Street neighbors who are expecting twins. Double the pleasure! I did not get a chance to ask if it was okay to announce it so no names right now.
Sister-in-law Karen and I headed to Spencer yesterday to meet Jasper friends for lunch. With Highway 46 closed, 246 was an adventure. Even the semi's were having to use that route.
I came to a complete stop a couple of times to let the truck have the curve.
We decided State Road 231 would be the way to come back home. None of the drivers were rude but that stretch just seems too narrow in places.
Our visit at Chambers Smorgasbord in Spencer was a good one.
The tenderloins and the lasagna were especially good that day. My Jasper friends had been inconvenienced by the Interstate 69 construction so they were looking for an alternate route, too. We all made it home safely.
I was late enough that I got to enjoy some of the Christmas decorations in Brazil and Harmony. I love to see the lights, especially that intense blue some folks have put up the last couple of years. Gorgeous. I apologize to my neighbors that it is rather blah at my house. The greenery and a few white lights will be it for this year. My knee isn't up to climbing.
Happy Birthday to Warren Bell & Betty Evans (22nd), Amaya Jones (24th), Brad & Chris Pell & Mandy Escott (25th), Sandy Jenkins (31). Happy Anniversary John & Christine Clark (17th).
