Community members have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those affected by autism through their old cell phones.
Cells4Autism, LLC., is a socially and environment-friendly enterprise that uses a portion of proceeds earned from recycling donated cell phones to fund traditional autism charities such as Autism Speaks.
They use the lion's share of the proceeds to jump start their resource center concept.
Each phone donated to Cells4Autism avoids winding up in a landfill and provides benefits to this cause.
Donating old cell phones to this cause is free and simple.
To donate, visit www.cells4autism.com to print a personalized FedEx label to ship the cell phone for free. FedEx will also pick up the package if needed.
Proclaiming that "awareness" and "seeking a cure" just isn't enough, three South Florida families affected by autism banded together to form and launch Cells4Autism.
The families feel there are many organizations promoting the awareness of autism and funding research to find a cure for future generations, but there aren't enough organizations addressing the day-to-day lives of those living with or near autism.
The three families watched their autistic teenagers "fall through the cracks," and decided to make a difference by embarking on a long-term project of developing a new resource center where children and young adults with special needs and their parents can find the most current information, therapies, life-skill training and socialization opportunities -- all under one roof.
