The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Laser Light Show

The Allen Memorial Planetarium will conduct a holiday laser light show Friday, at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, at 4 and 6 p.m.

Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children 12-under. Tickets will be available at the door.

All proceeds from the show will support the programming at the planetarium.

Santa in Staunton

Santa Claus will pay a visit to the Staunton Community Center Saturday, Dec. 17.

Santa will be at the center from 2-4 p.m., to visit with Staunton-area children.

Treats will be available. In addition, cookies, hot chocolate and coffee will be served.

The event is free to the community.

Cantata

The Brazil First Presbyterian Church Choir will perform the cantata, "Night of the Father's Love," during the morning worship Sunday, at 10:30 a.m.

All are encouraged to join the congregation.

Christmas Walk

The annual Christmas In The Park Christmas Walk will take place Sunday, Dec. 18, from 6-8 p.m., at Forest Park.

The event will include Christmas Caroling by various church groups.

Christmas Celebration

The Clay County Genealogical Society will conduct its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 1 p.m., in the library in Center Point.

The main item of business for the meeting will be election of officers for the coming year.

After the meeting, the society will have a Christmas celebration. Those interested in attending are asked to bring finger foods.

The library will be closed after the meeting for the holidays. It will reopen to the public Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012.

Special openings may be scheduled during the closing by calling 442-1502 or 812-986-2893.

Youth Meeting

The Youth for Community Committee has scheduled its first meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 4 p.m., at Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

LEAAP Into Christmas!

Family Fun Day will take place at the Linking Education to Adults, Adolescents and Preschoolers Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 10-11 a.m., and noon-1 p.m.

Children will be accompanied by at least one adult and will participate in activities related to the book, "The Gingerbread Man."

In addition, the Family Literacy Christmas party will take place from 1:10-1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 21.
