On Saturday, Dec. 18, the local Democratic Party had a Democratic caucus to elect a new county council member.
On Jan. 1, Brian Wyndham will step down from his county council position to begin his role as Brazil mayor.
To replace Wyndham, Dolores Johnson, Jackson Township, was elected.
"I've served on the council before, and I wanted to see the council move forward like I think they have been doing," she said. "I'm looking forward to serving the voters of the county again."
In other council news, the Clay County Council had a special meeting Monday afternoon to discuss additional appropriations.
The council approved an appropriation out of the County General Fund for the Clay County Justice Center personal services. The additional sums of money included: $25,755 for the jailers, $2,545 for the part-time cook and $9,310 for the part-time jailer.
"We approved the 11th jail officer, but when we did away with the nurse, the money got transferred over," Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton said. "So when we did the budget we said no additional raises, bumping us back to previous years. But we forgot to put the 11th jail officer in there. We're also short on part-time money for the kitchen and jailers."
The council approved the additional sums of money.
