Clay City girls fall in tourney finale

BLOOMFIELD -- The Clay City girls' basketball team couldn't overcome a difficult first half of play against the South Knox Spartans on Wed-nesday night at the Toby Yoho Tourn-ament.

The Eels scored just one point in the second quarter and a total of seven in the first half as South Knox pulled out to a 20-7 lead at the halfway point. The Eels rallied back to within five points with a 19-point outburst in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough as Clay City fell by a 46-41 score.

Brielle Drelick, who had scored her 1,000th career point in an afternoon win over Paoli, led the Eels with 20 points while Carmela Roeschlein added 11, including a trio of 3-pointers. However, no other Eel scored more than four points in the loss as Clay City finished the tourney with a 2-2 mark and a sixth-place finish.

Next up for the Eels (9-5 overall) is a trip to Cloverdale on Monday evening.
