Boxing championship to take place in Terre Haute

Ryves Youth Center, 1356 Locust St., Terre Haute, will host the Regional Silver Gloves Boxing Championship Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 14-15, 2012.

According to the press release, boxing has been a tradition in west-central Indiana, dating back decades.

Boxers from five states, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Kentucky, will compete for the title of champion in the junior (10-11-year-olds), intermediate (12-13-year-olds), and senior (14-15-year-olds) divisions.

All weight classes will participate in 5-pound weight increments.

Winners in each division will have the opportunity to advance to the national competition in February.

Matches will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, beginning at 1 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, beginning at noon, doors open one hour prior to matches.

Thirty to thirty-five matches are expected on both days.

Additional matches may be held on Monday, Jan.16.

Tickets for the event will be $10 per day for adults or $5 per day for children and are available at the door or in advance.

Sponsorship levels are available beginning at $50.

All sponsorship levels include tickets and a listing in the program.
