Lake House Restaurant hosts comedians

Wabash Valley residents looking for a good time Saturday evening can stop by the Lake House Restaurant in Staunton.

The restaurant recently teamed up with Comedy & Co., Bloomington, for performances during the first Saturday of each month.

According to Lake House representatives, the contract is currently set up through the first three months of this year.

Comedy & Co. owner Mike Tucker, originally from Brazil, added the shows would present professional comedians. The first show, scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 p.m., will feature Chris Bowers, owner of Morty's Comedy Club in Indianapolis, along with Tucker, Tim McLaughlin and Todd McComas.

Tucker said Morty's is "the No. 1 comedy club in Indiana," while McComas has been a part of Operation Comic Tour, which raises money for veterans. In addition, he said McLaughlin is an "up and comer" in the field of comedy.

Tucker told The Brazil Times he is thrilled to bring more comedy to Clay County.

"A year ago today, I did my first show in Brazil," Tucker said, referring to a shot at the Timeout Sports Bar and Grill. "That's where it started.

"Then I got wind from someone else that the Lake House wanted to do comedy shows. I contacted them, and we did a show in (Dec-ember) and it was packed."

The response to the December show prompted the businesses to reach its current agreement.

Tucker said he always has comedians from Chicago and New York contacting him to book venues, giving him plenty of reason to believe more professional comedians would be willing to perform here.

"There are going to be professional comedians traveling to Brazil," he said. "This is very big, I think. This doesn't happen in small towns. Comedians love going to small towns and have a good show. They will travel to have a good show.

"This is a good location. We can bring professional comedy within a small area. They travel here, and they love it and enjoy it."

Cost to attend Saturday's event will be $10. Doors to the performance open at 9:30 p.m., with the show starting at 10:30.

I hope the food quality turns around at The Lake House, or people will stop going there. We went when they first opened and back 2 other times since and the food was terrible. Hope the comedians help their turnout.

Well you would be one of the few that said the food sucks. Maybe you need to stick with Mcdonalds food. The Lake House is always packed with people and has pretty good food compared to some places around Brazil. Or maybe you could go to Sunshine Cafe and eat the leftovers from someone elses plate which has been done there several times before.

My family and I had a awesome time at the last comedy nite at the Lake House. Good job Tucker. Shame on MS666 for being a hater. The stake house is the best place to eat around here for a 100 miles....

Food sucks? Really? I've only been there twice but the food was pr obably some of the best in the Brazil area. ...a bit pricey but very good.

All I did was post my experience there. If you dont like my opinion ignore it. As I will with all of yours.

-- Posted by MS660 on Sat, Jan 7, 2012, at 8:56 AM

I'm going to have to agree with MS660. The food and service are bad!!! And you people who say it's so great must be eating Banquet tv dinners everyday. I've been there 3 times and everytime it's worse than the last.

And Roger, it's steak not stake!!!!!

Everyone has different opinions, and there's no reason to go around saying your wrong hes wrong. In my opinion every time I have went there is great steak, and good hospitality! Grow up, to the people that are being rude. I happen to like some things at sunrise, and I like eating a TV dinner now and then it saves me from cooking on days I've worked my tush off. Thumbs up Lake House for trying something different!

The stake house is the best place to eat around here for a 100 miles....

Really? You must never get out of Brazil to make a silly statement like that!

-- Posted by WickedSpring64 on Sat, Jan 7, 2012, at 6:33 PM

Sunrise, well, I tried a meatloaf manhattan and I can say it was "unique". I found the "mystery" meat rather "unusual". I had no idea that you could "shave" meatloaf into tiny strips of something.

Disclaimer: This is the only time I have been to the Sunrise.

The problem with most places you eat at in Brazil is that they have no passion for cooking. They know they can fill the trough and feed the pig. Most places are like that today, sad really.

We hardly go out anymore because most places just don't seem to care about quality. Then again, who wants to pay $2.50 for a drink. I can bring in my own liter for less!

Now, the though of comedy in Brazil, I say good for them!

After all, the only thing that is funny around here is all the DWI guys riding their mowers on the streets! I half excpect to see them break into a ballet number at an intersection some day!

-- Posted by WickedSpring64 on Sat, Jan 7, 2012, at 6:44 PM

LOL. Wicked you are on track, or should I say Trake. Best place to get a (steak/stake)is the Texas Road House in Terre Haute. Have eaten at Lake House twice. Not too bad, but a little pricey.

If you are driving 100 miles or less for value, the only place is The Beef House. You can't get any cut for a fair price in Brazil or Terre Haute. There are some good places in Indy, but you will pay too much and the parking is horrible. The best place in town is Pappy's. I have relatives come to visit just to eat there.

I'm not sure many of you have been to the lakehouse recently.

The food is delicious and very fairly priced. A chicken sandwich meal will cost roughly $9-$10. You'll pay $7 for a much smaller chicken sandwich meal at Wendy's...

The most expensive steak dinner they have is still under $20 at $18.99 and it's a good quality steak, not something you'd get at Applebee's.

Best place to eat in Brazil, hands down.

I haven't had the pleasure of the Lake House as of yet. I do plan on going there at some point. As for the best place to eat, isn't that a matter of tastes and likes? I have eaten at all these other places and each one has something i like. I like the BBQ at Pappy's but I also like it at Rick's! I have found most places to order food around here is much better than Wendy's and Hardee's. Anyway, I'm glad to hear they are trying something different at the Lake House, I may have to try it sooner than planned. Oh and as far as price, I can eat $10 worth at Eddie's :)

I have been to the Lakehouse and had both sides of the experience; however, this article was about the Lakehouse bringing comedy to the local area. I think it's great that local establishments (Lakehouse and Timeout) are at least trying to bring something new to the area.

I'm sorry, but I have been twice, and I really dont think that it is good at all. You can't have high school kids cooking at a steak house, and expect good results. They didn't even understand how prime rib was prepared, and it had absolutely no taste, plus it was had absolutely no pink! I will compliment the spinach dip, it was pretty tasty. The grouper sandwich tastes like it was under cooked, and just fished out of sulfur pit. No flavor on the strip that I ordered the second time either. The staff seems somewhat immature too. Definitely all over priced, as well. Just my opinion. As for the comedy, I have seen tucker multiple times, and hope for the best turn out every time he is around.

Stake house? Maybe the Mormans made it a church.

Sorry that should be Mormons. Hit the wrong key on the old iPad.

WOW ! Reading all of the above comments has given me good laugh for the day! Someone said....isn't it a matter of tastes and likes ?..... That statement is probably the most sensible of any of them!!!! I think it's GREAT that there is a "New Face" (meaning restaurant) between Brazil and Terre Haute.....And I certainly hope the comedy nights succeed!!!! Awesome job Lake House !

-- Posted by JaniLou on Tue, Jan 10, 2012, at 3:11 PM

As far as its not a lake, Well Terre Haute's not Texas but theres a Texas Road House.I think thats just trying to find something to nit pick.I have had good food and food I didnt like the taste of. I can also say that at about every place I ever ate.But hats off to the Lake HOuse for bring some good enterainment to the county that I can enjoy with my kids.

Been there three times and wasnt impressed any of the times we went. The second time I was just giving them a second chance because it was new and thought they just needed to get started better. Probably wouldnt have gone back a third time if friends hadnt asked us to go. Wont go back for a forth time to eat, but the comedy thing might be a nice addition to the bar.

My wife and I went there the other night.

Our first trip and here is what I think.

We both ordered the Ribeye, both were cooked as we had requested. The meat was tender and had a great flavor. The salad is way to small and I think should be included with the meal as it is in other places instead of being one of the two sides. Our server was very friendly and gave us good service. The building was clean and the other employees were very pleasant. Now as far as price, I don't mind paying $20 for a good steak, salad and 2 sides with bread. But I thought it was a bit over priced for the quantity we ordered. As far as quality, the steak was as good as I have eaten from the Road House or the Outback and lots better than some I have gotten in other places in Terre Haute.

I'm sure everyone has their own opinion as they should have. Like I said before, it really depends on your taste, likes, and experiences while there. Mine warrants a return trip at some point. Bottom line is go there if you like it, stay away if you don't.

As for the entertainment, I look forward to giving that a try also.
