Both teams struggled to score the first basket, until Northview's Sierra Girton broke the tie with a free throw at 3:08 in the first quarter.

The early offensive struggles continued throughout the first quarter, and by the end of the period Owen Valley led 7-1.

Northview's offense improved slightly in the second quarter with Abbey Timberman adding four of her six points in the game and Girton knocking down a three.

The Knights' defense also stepped up, only allowing five Patriots' points in the quarter.

However, at halftime, Northview found themselves down 12-8.

As the third quarter progressed the Knights battled to keep the score close.

At the five-minute mark, the Knights brought the score to 13-10 after a McKenzi Kumpf basket, and with two minutes to go, Kumpf showed up big again with a basket to bring the Knights within one, 15-14.

By the end of the third quarter the Knights were down 19-16.

The Knights had their opportunities in the fourth to take control of the game, but couldn't find a way to get it done, despite a five-point quarter from Ashley Hughes.

With 1:45 left in the game, another 3-pointer from Girton got the Knights within two, 27-25, but the Patriots countered with one of their own from Hannah Corder.

After that, it was all Patriots as they went on to win 37-28.

Coach Scott Buell said from an effort standpoint he thought his team played well, but just couldn't translate that into points.

Buell said his team played solid defensively, but his team struggled where it has all season -- on offense.

He said during the upcoming week of practice he will continue to work with his team on their confidence offensively.

The Knights travel to Cascade on Tuesday evening for a 6 p.m. JV start.
