ELNORA -- The Clay City Eels moved to within one game of clinching an unbeaten Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference mark this season with a 57-23 victory on the road at North Daviess on Monday evening.

The defending SWIAC champion Eels shut out the Cougars in the second quarter and held North Daviess to just three points in the first 16 minutes of the game. Meanwhile, Clay City had found its outside stroke, knocking down nine 3-pointers in the game on the way to its seventh win in as many conference contests.

Carmela Roeschlein sank a team-high three from behind the arc, but six different players hit at least one 3-pointer for the Eels. Allie Miller drilled two and Madison Booe, Brielle Drelick, Callie Dayhuff and Kylee Truax all hit one.

Drelick had a 21-point night to lead the way, including hitting all six of her free throws. Roeschlein had 17 points, Miller had six and both Booe and Dayhuff each had five points.

The victory is the fourth straight for the Class A No. 12 ranked Eels and sets up a battle with the 15-3 Sullivan Golden Arrows, the No. 9 team in Class 2A. Clay City hosts Sullivan on Thursday night beginning with a 6 p.m. JV game.
