She was born Aug. 6, 1928, in Clay County, the daughter of Roy and Viola G. Brown Urbain. She graduated from Bridgeton High School.
On April 24, 1946 she was united in marriage to Robert Brower.
They knew one another for one week, fell in love, and were married over 50 years.
He preceded her in death. Viola was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was also a Foster Care mother for several years. While living in Monroe County, Ind., Viola was instrumental in starting the first Girl Scout Troop for that area.
She was in the Order of the Eastern Star while the family was located in Ellettsville.
She and Bob moved back to the Brazil area in 1988. Viola attended the Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children Richard E. Brower and wife Diana, Houston, Texas, E. J. Brower, Bridgeton, Carol Sunday and husband Doug, New Brockton, Ala., and Mary Treash and husband Mickey, Brazil, grandchildren John Brower, Deanna Cull (Kevin), Jessica Brower, Bobbi J. Purvis (Robert), David Senn, Joyce Senn, Viola Michelle Pund (Jeff), Jason Treash (Dawn), great-grandchildren Catherine Garrett, John Garrett, Cameron Pund, Ethan Pund, Cassidy Wilks, Rose Lynne Wilks, Zachary Wilks, Aran Senn, Amber Brower, Justin Brower, Christina Cull, Christopher Cull, Hannah Brower, Matthew Purvis, great-great-granddaughter Melody Treash, sisters Ella Mary Smith, Hazel Moore; brother Gary Urbain; sisters in law Dot Urbain, Ruth Urbain, Virginia Overpeck and Margaret Burks; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob Bower, brothers James, Roy Jr, Levi and Delbert Urbain, sisters Evelyn Naughgless, Betty Ward and Effie Brower.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m., at French Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Richmond and Ernie Rush officiating.
Burial will follow at Clear Run Cemetery in Bridgeton. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m., and again Saturday prior to services.
