BLOOMINGTON -- The Bloomington North Cougars might have been missing two of its leading scorers when they met the Northview Knights on Tuesday, but it was some of its less heralded players that stepped up as North claimed a 60-41 home victory.

Sam Sheldon came into the game averaging less than a point per game for the Cougars, but he scored a career-high 13 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to aid his team in the victory.

The Cougars lost starter Garrett Burton due to a torn knee ligament in a game against rival Bloomington South and then dismissed Damon Brown due to a second team rules violation last week. The pair were a big part of the North offense over the first half of the season, but against the Knights it was sophomore Tyler Truesdel's 12 first half points and eight from Grant Sims in the second quarter alone. The pair helped propel the Cougars to a 37-25 lead at the halftime break.

Trailing by double-digits, the Knights switched their defensive strategy to a triangle-and-two that was effective and held the Cougars to just seven points in the third quarter. A 3-pointer from Craig Peters narrowed the lead to 42-35 late in the quarter. From there however, the Cougars went on a 14-0 run that sealed the deal against the Knights.

Jacob Ninesling came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points and Damon Hyatt had nine for the Knights. Dillon Reynolds added seven points and six rebounds with Peters hitting a pair of 3-pointers for six points.

Northview struggled on the boards against the Cougars, losing the rebounding battle 32-20 and shot just 39-percent from the field.

The Knights (4-9 overall) look to get back on the winning track Friday night with a conference match-up with South Vermillion that begins with a 6 p.m. varsity girls' contest.
