Warriors rally past Northview girls

DANVILLE -- The Northview girls' basketball team ran out of steam in the fourth quarter as Danville claimed a 45-35 victory on Wednesday night.

The Warriors pulled away from a 31-all tie after three quarters to outscore Northview 14-4 in the final period of the contest.

The Knights started strong in the game and took an 11-7 lead after the opening period of play, but Danville got rolling in the second quarter with a 16-point outburst to edge ahead at the midway point of the game.

Danville won despite shooting just 10-of-22 from the free throw line in the game.

The Knights got a 16-point game from Abbey Timberman and 10 from Cassie Weddle, who hit a pair of 3-pointers. Ashley Hughes scored four points, Sierra Girton added three and Whitney Halfhill added two points.

In the junior varsity contest, Danville came away with a 26-23 victory despite 10 points from Sydney Buell and seven from Mallory Smith.

The Knights are back in action this evening with a 6 p.m. varsity contest at home against South Vermillion, which will be followed by a varsity boys' game.
