Board of works to hire police officers

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

The board of works met Monday afternoon for a special meeting to get the process started to hire two police officers.

The approval to hire the new officers, Graig Bass and Raymond Walters III, needed to be done in a public forum, and the candidates must pass certain qualifications.

"We will be hiring them contingent upon passing the 1977 police and fire fighter penchant fund," Mayor Brian Wyndham said.

Once the candidates pass the necessary qualifications, the mayor will be able to swear in the new officers.

Wyndham said it was important to "get the ball rolling" with this process, which is why the special meeting was called to order on such short notice.

The motion was made to hire the new police officers and was passed unanimously.

The board of works will meet for its regular meeting Wednesday, Jan 25, in Brazil City Hall at 2 p.m.

I think maybe that should be "pension" not "penchant." Although, a penchant fund would be nice to have.
