Kathryn Jean Pell Knierim, 91, Indianapolis, passed away Jan. 23, 2012, at University Heights Healthcare Facility.
Born March 20, 1920, Carbon, to the late Robert C. and Nola (Baker) Pell, she attended Carbon Community Schools and graduated from Van Buren High School in 1938.
Kathryn then attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1942.
She was married to Max W. Knierim Oct. 21, 1944, by Rev. William H. Knierim, at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Indianapolis.
They resided on the west side for most of their life and he passed away in 1976.
Kathryn worked as a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of Brazil Order of the Eastern Star and Omega Phi Tau Sorority and attended Friedens United Church of Christ.
Survivors include son Dennis (Sharon) Knierim, daughter Benita (Woody) Book, grandchildren Scott (Erica) Knierim, and Holly Cooney, great-grandchildren Riley and Conner Cooney, and Max and Lily Knierim.
She was preceded in death by brother William C. Pell in 1999.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-8 p.m., and Friday, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Ave., Indianapolis.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27, 2012.
Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.
