Numerous programs are offered by Purdue Extension during the winter months.

Right now, the Master Grain Marketer program is wrapping up and plans have been made for more educational programs during February and March.

Purdue Extension in Clay and Owen counties will be offering the Purdue Master Gardener class on Monday nights from 6-9 p.m., at the Clay County Extension Office in Brazil.

It will run from Feb. 13-May 14.

No classes are scheduled for March 19 and April 23.

The class will offer a variety of topics, such as canning, herbs, pesticide safety, soils, turf care, vegetables and more, and will be covered by a host of different Purdue Extension Specialist, Extension Educators and invited guests.

The cost of the program is $115 and covers the cost of course materials, speakers and a copy of the new Purdue Master Gardener book that was recently developed.

There are still a few spaces available for the program.

Contact the Clay County Extension Office at 448-9041 to sign up. The deadline to register for the program is Jan. 31, at 4 p.m.

Purdue Extension in Monroe and Owen counties are hosting a two-night Beef Program during February.

The program will provide you with information about forage management, artificial insemination (AI) and synchronizing cattle.

The class will take place Feb. 9, at the Owen County Fairgrounds in Spencer, and Feb. 13, at the Monroe County Extension Office in Bloomington.

Both classes are from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The two-night program costs $10 and will feature presentations from Greg Beavers (Select Sires), Karl Gillette (Genex), Brad Shelton (Feldun Purdue Ag Center Superintendent) and Jenna Smith (Purdue Extension, Clay and Owen counties).

To sign up for the program, call 812-349-2575.

We do ask that participants come to both nights of the program, as different information will be provided each night.

As always, if you have any questions or would like information on any agriculture, horticulture or natural resource topic, then please contact your local Purdue Extension Office at 448-9041 in Clay County or 812-829-5020 in Owen County, or reach me directly at smith535@purdue.edu.
